‘Rocks’ is a film written by screenwriters Theresa Ikoko and Claire Wilson, and directed by Sarah Gavron.
The film set in East London follows school girl Shola adjust to the dramatic change of having responsibility for her younger brother Emmanuel. The film follows the themes of friendship, adultification, responsibility and survival.
YUCAN highly recommends this film as a visual lens to the struggles of today’s young carers, specifically those from migrant backgrounds, first-generation born young people whose experiences often go overlooked when discussing young carer needs.
‘Rocks’ shows a fantastic exemplification on this and would hope that further representation of young carers from such backgrounds is explored and helped.
